Conference Overview

The 2008 Society of Experimental Psychologists will convene on Bloomington campus of Indiana University, located close to downtown Bloomington, Indiana, about 50 miles south of Indianapolis, Indiana. Reliable shuttle, limousine and rental car service is available for the drive from the airport to campus and return. Directions to campus from the airport are simple and easy to follow (see “Travel” for details)

Scenic

The Bloomington campus is a careful blend of traditional and modern architecture set in a park-like environment. Walkways meander alongside streams, through woods, and along tree lined paths. Spring is an especially beautiful time of year when the campus is “a-bloom” with flowering trees, fragrant shrubs, and vibrantly colored spring bulbs. We invite you to preview some of the scenes that await you by taking a virtual campus tour.

Culturally Distinct

Both the University and the community of Bloomington have united in a mission to create a sophisticated Midwestern cultural capital featuring international-caliber performance in opera, theater, music and dance – all in a small city setting. At the time of the SEP meeting the renown Jacob’s School of Music Opera Department will be performing Offenbach’s Les Contes d’ Hoffmann (Tales of Hoffmann), providing you with the opportunity to experience world-class opera performance in the stunning Musical Arts Center at ticket prices of exceptional value.

Unique Venues

While many of the SEP conference activities will take place in the Indiana Memorial Union, we have taken special effort to provide you with an opportunity to visit other campus venues. We’ll offer opportunities to tour the Kinsey Institute and the Lilly Library and you will tour the galleries and dine at the I.M. Pei designed Indiana University Art Museum.

LOCAL TIME

Bloomington is located in the Eastern Time Zone. At the time of the conference, Bloomington will be operating on Eastern Daylight Time, the same time as New York City and the East Coast of the United States, and one hour ahead of Chicago.

WEATHER

Early to mid-April is typically characterized by daytime temperature in the middle seventies and nights in the low fifties. Although this is one of the loveliest times to visit the campus, temperature can vary considerably. We suggest that you bring layered clothing to accommodate either below or above average temperature. Local weather information is available through the National Weather Service.
